North Shore Election Update: Dec. 21

ELECTION UPDATE

Below is a listing of the seats on local school and village boards, plus a municipal judge seat, that are up for election April 3. As information becomes available, we will update this column to let you know who is - and is not - running for re-election. Additional information about the elections can be found at your local school district, village or city hall. A primary election will be held Feb. 21 if necessary.

BAYSIDE

Seats: two Village Board trustees

Who's running: incumbents James Peterson and Daniel Muchin plan to seek re-election.

BROWN DEER

Seats: three School Board and two Village Board trustees

Who's running: School Board member Dennis Lowder has announced he will not seek re-election; board member Leslie Galloway Sherard announced she intends to run for re-election.

FOX POINT

Seats: two Village Board trustees

GLENDALE

Seats: mayor and Common Council seats in districts 2, 4 and 6

Who's Running: Incumbents Jerry Tepper for mayor, Richard Wiese for the 4th District, JoAnn Shaw for the 6th District

Richard Wiese, 59, will seek re-election to his 4th District seat on the Glendale Common Council. Wiese, the owner of technical communications and training firm Integrated Solutions Group and co-owner of Riden Manufacturing, lives at 7505 N Berwyn Ave., with his wife. The couple have two sons and two grandsons. Wiese holds a bachelor's degree in industrial education and minor in business from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a master's degree in media technology and minor in business from UW-Stout. Wiese was appointed to the council in 2007 and was elected to his first term in 2008.

Aldermen serve two-year terms and earn $2,700 a year.

MEQUON

Seats: three Common Council members in districts 6, 7 and 8; three Mequon-Thiensville School Board seats

Who's Running: Stephanie Clark for School Board;

Newcomer Nancy Anderson will run for the District 8 seat on the Common Council in the April 3 election. The seat is now held by longtime council member Pam Adams. Adams has filed a notice of candidacy but has not filed nomination papers.

Anderson, 52, lives with her family at 119 W. Ravine Court. She has been active in a number of community groups over the past 20 years including the Mequon Thiensville Education Foundation. She recently was the co-chairman of the Community Conversation Task Force.

She earned B.A. in accounting at the University of Iowa. She is also a CPA.

Aldermen serve three-year terms and earn $4,800 a year.

RIVER HILLS

Seats: two Village Board trustees

SHOREWOOD

Seats: one School Board member; village president, two Village Board trustees and municipal judge

Who's running: Donal Demet previously announced he will seek re-election as municipal judge; incumbents Jeff Hanewall and Thad Nation are also seeking re-election to the Village Board and incumbent Guy Johnson will run for Village President.

Trustee Thad Nation will seek election April 3 to the Village Board. He was appointed to the position in June after former Trustee Margaret Hickey stepped down because of a move outside the community.

Nation, 38, is the owner of Nation Consulting LLC. He previously served as a press secretary for former Gov. Jim Doyle.

He holds a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Notre Dame.

Nation lives at 4426 N. Farwell Ave., and has four children.

Trustees serve three-year terms and earn $1,000 a year.

THIENSVILLE

Seats: village president and two Village Board trustees

Who's running: Van Mobley has announced he will run for president, Kim Beck has announced he is running for trustee.

Kim Beck is running for trustee April 3. He currently serves on the Thiensville Plan Commission and has never run for elected office.

Beck, 56, is the director of arts, humanities and science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education.

He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn., and two master's degrees: one in humanities from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and another in theater and drama from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He lives with his wife, Pamela, and son at 501 Heidel Road.

Trustees serve three-year terms and earn $1,800 per year; village president also serves a three-year term, earning $3,600 per year.

WHITEFISH BAY

Seats: three School Board members; two Village Board trustees

Who's running: Incumbents Pam Woodard and Kathy Rogers, challenger Anne Kearney for School Board.

Trustee Richard Foster will seek re-election April 3, but Trustee Kevin Buckley will not run again for the Village Board.

Foster is completing his first three-year term on the board. He was appointed to the board prior to his election.

A retired newspaper reporter, editor and editorial writer, Foster, 73, has a bachelor's degree in English literature from Lawrence University.

He lives with his wife and two children at 4645 N. Murray Ave.

NICOLET-AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS

Nicolet School District: two seats

Who's Running: incumbent Marilyn Franklin

Fox Point-Bayside School District: one seat

Who's Running: incumbent Debbi Friberg

Glendale-River Hills School District: two seats;

Incumbent Theresa Seem will seek a second term on the Glendale-River Hills School Board.

Seem, 48, is a contract attorney with Contract Counsel Solutions.

She lives with her family at 1800 W Woodbury Lane, Glendale.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in rhetoric and communication studies at the University of Virginia and a J.D. degree at Marquette University.

Members serve three-year terms and earn $540 annually.

Maple Dale Indian Hill: two seats; Incumbent Jane Guffy will seek a third term on the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School Board.

Guffy, 49, is the owner of JANE Putting it Simply and the Milwaukee area director of Safe Families for Children.

She lives with her husband, Doug, and five children at 1770 W. Bradley Road, River Hills.

Guffy earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Munelein College in Chicago.

Members serve three-year terms, and there is no pay for service.
